Safe, Exciting Bicycle Path Around Ring Road

I love Iceland. I love the amazing scenery, and the majestic landscape. Iceland is so popular and driving the Ring round around our beautiful country is like being in nature safari. But would it not be great if you could bike the same way in safe manner, think about that.
Did you know that in 2018, there were 2.3 million visitors to Iceland; that’s 2,300,000 people who fly into our little Island and explore our country. Of these, 65% hire a car and drive themselves to where they want to go. This has meant that there are more cars than ever on our Icelandic roads!
There are plans to invest massively across the infrastructure to improve our roads; which gives us the opportunity to really think about what we should do with this investment. I want everyone to be safe, and to have fun in our Country and so I thought it would be really good to build a Cycle Path right next to Road 1.
It would only need to widen the route by another 2,0 meter maximum, and it would make such an amazing difference. I’m sure our local people and tourists alike would love to have the comfort and safety afforded to them with this new cycle path.
It makes sense to build this at the same time we invest into the roads. There’s no doubt in my mind that hundreds of thousands of additional bike riders from all over the world would want to visit Iceland each year, just to visit and ride round the new Bicycle Road 1.
Imagine the possibilities, the new friendships, the additional revenue. That would create a lot of new money, opportunity and jobs for all of us.
A little bit of forethought is all it needs. This is our Iceland. We care for it for future generations.
