Reduce Regulation Stupidity
When is too much really too much?
Mankind is living with existential threat, Putin is looking to (quite possibly) start WW3, China has designs on expansion, and North Korea is ostensibly testing nukes.
How life has changed over the last 20 years, and how did we get to this?
Now, the Welsh Rugby Union has decided to ban the song 'My My Delilah'. It was banned because of its subject matter, as Delilah is about a woman who has been murdered by her husband or boyfriend after cheating on him.
A Principality Stadium spokesperson said: “‘Delilah’ will not feature on the playlist for choirs for rugby internationals at Principality Stadium.”
“Guest choirs have also more recently been requested not to feature the song during their pre-match performances and throughout games.”
The spokesperson added: “The WRU condemns domestic violence of any kind.
“We have previously sought advice from subject matter experts on the issue of censoring the song and we are respectfully aware that it is problematic and upsetting to some supporters because of its subject matter.”
Musician Dafydd Iwan – whose Welsh anthem “Yma O Hyd” is also sung, said in 2014: “A song about murder, it does tend to trivialise the idea of murdering a woman. It’s a pity these words now have been elevated to the status of a secondary national anthem.” But, he also said in a letter to The Guardian: “Banning songs is not something I would ever advocate – even if it was possible.”
How many other songs and pieces of 'art' will we ban, whilst other more serious issues are never addressed?
Of course, we shouldn't ever trivialise murder or any other criminal act, but we should be able to understand context, and right from wrong, otherwise, we'll need to stop airing TV soaps, and Cop shows, too.
The world is indeed mad, people have lost the plot, and common sense is dead, why, why, why Delilah!
You just can't make it up, can you?
